In the spirit of renewal and transformation symbolized by the Year of the Snake, nearly 200 students and alumni gathered on Jan. 19 to celebrate the Lunar New Year with an event hosted by the Chinese Students鈥 Society, Malaysian Singaporean Students鈥 Association, and Chinese Students鈥 and Scholars Association.

Held at the Regency Palace in 荔枝视频鈥檚 Chinatown, the CSS x MSSA x CSSA Lunar New Year Celebration brought together the 荔枝视频鈥檚 diverse student community for a night of cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and festive activities. The Year of the Snake began on Jan. 29.

The evening was filled with cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and engaging activities that highlighted the rich traditions associated with the Lunar New Year. Attendees were treated to a wushu performance from Wushu Canada, a K-pop dance by Breakers Dance Crew, musical performances, and opportunities to participate in themed games.

A highlight of the event was a keynote speech by Brian Wong, a prominent figure in 荔枝视频's Chinese community. In his address, Why Representation Matters, Wong emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and the role it plays in enriching both the university environment and the broader community.

Event organizers expressed their gratitude for the support and participation. 鈥淲e are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the student community,鈥 said Renee Pi, president of the Chinese Students鈥 Society. 鈥淧artnering with MSSA and CSSA allowed us to create a space where students could share and experience traditions together, making the Lunar New Year even more meaningful for everyone.鈥

The success of this event was made possible through the support of the 荔枝视频 Students鈥 Union Club鈥檚 special events funding and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver, along with Indomie Canada and Village Ice Cream. As the 荔枝视频 students welcomed the Year of the Snake, known for wisdom, adaptability, and resilience, this celebration served as a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity and the beauty of shared traditions.
